An Instrumental Voyage - Pae Tawhiti, Pae Tata by Jeremy Mayall, featuring songs by Maisey Rika and Hirini Melbourne
An Instrumental Voyage - Pae Tawhiti, Pae Tata is an orchestral journey through the history of Aotearoa New Zealand from pre-European times. Performed in three movements, An Instrumental Voyage - Pae Tawhiti, Pae Tata was recorded in 2019 as part of Tuia Encounters 250 and features your NZSO, taonga pūoro specialist Horomona Horo, singer Maisey Rika and composer Jeremy Mayall on electronics.
Horo, who was the NZSO Cultural Advisor for the project, was joined by players for workshops at schools in the Hutt Valley, Kāpiti Coast, Blenheim and Christchurch, including Māori immersion school Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Waitaha. Orchestral instruments, taonga pūoro and waiata were presented and shared with delighted students.
